How to remove chewing gum that's stuck to your carpet

The trick with chewing gum removal is ice - you need to freeze it.  Best thing here is to use an ice pack if you have one, or if not, a few ice cubes in a sandwich bag should do the trick.

Place the ice over the chewing gum so that it becomes hard and brittle (the longer the better), and then you can start to pick it off with your fingers or scrap it off with a blunt knife.  If it starts to go stringy, reapply the ice to freeze it again.

Patience and perseverance are definitely needed, but if it saves buying a new carpet, it's money well spent.
